The Speed Gap Isn't Close
When reviewers raced both platforms, Base44 won the first exchange. Mikey No Code, Christian Peverelli, and Santrel Media all found Base44's initial output more fully functional from a single prompt. Lovable catches up, but only after extra rounds of refinement.
The gap widens with complex features. Easy AI Coding credits Base44 with generating production-ready skeletons significantly faster when auth and databases are involved. In Mikey No Code's four-app test, he built a real estate site, a project management tool, a 2D game, and a Notion clone with a single prompt each. Base44 took all four.
Base44 also lets you pick the model doing the work (Claude 4.5 or Gemini 3 Pro, among others). Lovable doesn't give you that control. It does something else: it spontaneously exceeded Christian Peverelli's prompt, adding "What you'll learn" sections and module breakdowns nobody asked for. Base44 builds to spec. Lovable improvises, sometimes helpfully, sometimes not.
